One of the concerns we hear from pet parents is about the plastic that we use in our products. Plastic is an ongoing issue in our natural environment and we understand the consequences of using plastic products. However, food waste is an equally growing issue that impacts our environment in a negative way.
Vacuum-sealing the food allows us to reduce the risk of food waste by preventing freezer burn and damage to food. Food waste continues to have a multifaceted negative effect on the environment via the various energy resources it requires (water, fertilization, and transport).
The plastic bags that we use are CFIA approved for food contact, BPA-free, and 100% recyclable so if you give them a quick rinse with hot water once they are empty, you can recycle them at your local recycling center. To find a recycling facility that can recycle these plastic items, visit Recycle BC.
We have also reduced the thickness of our plastic bags so we are now using 30% less plastic than we were before (as of February 2020).
As the food industry evolves, we hope that there will be a viable biodegradable or compostable food packaging option that will allow us to eliminate plastic altogether. Currently, there aren’t any biodegradable plastic options that allow us to continue to serve the same quality of food to our loyal pet parent clients. Until that option becomes available, we will do everything we can to reduce our pollution output while still providing the food quality you’re used to.
